Courses

September 17, 2007
  • In Fall quarter this year (07-08) I'll be teaching Linear Control Systems I, which is intended to cover control of discrete time systems. Note that the Stanford Bulletin description is incorrect; you do not need to have taken Engr 105, Engr205 or EE263 before taking this class. This class used to be called Modern Control I, and will mostly be the same as that class last year.

  • The workshop celebrating Keith's birthday was wonderful! Take a look at the picture of my student Mike and my advisorial ancestors. There are also some more photos.

Control Performance Bounds without Solving the Hamilton-Jacobi Equation

March 20, 2006
  • The latest paper, Suboptimality Bounds in Stochastic Control: A Queueing Example gives a simple way to compute upper and lower bounds on the performance of stochastic control systems. A particularly interesting aspect of this work is that any function may be used as an approximate Hamilton-Jacobi solution; better choices give better bounds.
